Post On The American Cancer Society
December 9, 1998--A naturally occurring substance found in the foods we eat everyday might shrink tumors, stop their growth, and even make cancer cells behave normally again.
Abulkalam M. Shamsuddin, MD, PhD, a professor of pathology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and his colleagues, found inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) slowed or stopped the growth of human liver cancer cells grown in laboratory dishes and shrank existing tumors in mice.
"IP6 does not kill cancer cells; it tames them and makes them behave like normal cells," said Dr. Shamsuddin, whose research has focused on the cancer-fighting properties of the compound for more than a decade.
IP6 is a sugar molecule and is found in cereals, rice and wheat bran, legumes such as soybean and virtually every kind of cell in mammals. A member of the vitamin B6 family, it is though to regulate cellular functions including cell proliferation and differentiation.
According to Shamsuddin, IP6 decreases the reproduction of cancer cells and often causes them to revert to the size, shape and structure of normal cells. "IP6 has striking anticancer action, both in vitro (in cells cultures) and in vivo (in live animals)," he said.
According to David Ringer, PhD, scientific program director in the research department for the American Cancer Society, most studies in which IP6 was used to treat cancer in animals have indicated it inhibits cancer cell growth. These studies primarily have involved animals with colon and breast cancers. But Dr. Ringer also said clinical trials are needed to determine the therapeutic and/or preventive benefits of IP6.
Since IP6 is a natural food product and is not regulated by the FDA, Dr. Ringer said there are three important issues to consider: is IP6 is effective, is it safe, and what is a safe and effective dose.
IP6 has fallen in and out of medical favor since its discovery. Its antioxidant properties sparked initial excitement, followed by concern that IP6 binds tightly with important minerals such as calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc, preventing the body from absorbing them properly. More research is required before the ACS can sign off on its use, he added. In the interim, Dr. Ringer suggests consumers who are considering IP6 consult their physician.

In our opinion, the reason it has "fallen out of favor", which is a very misleading statement in itself since it has never really been in mainstream medicine "favor", is that it is too effective and too "cheap". If it really works as it appears, it could single-handedly destroy the huge industry that has grown up around "Cancer".
Additionally, although it does bind to and deplete minerals as stated by the ACS article, that supposed "concern" is easily overcome by supplementing with minerals. My research has found that almost no "mainstream medical establishment" doctors will ever "approve" it's use since it has not been "approved" by mainstream medical organizations; a very deceptive, but typical circular reasoning that we see regularly from mainstream medicine.
I personally know of at least a dozen people who have had very good success with IP-6 and who simply take addtional mineral supplements to compensate for this accelerated depletion. I, myself do a preventative maintenance every 4 months with IP-6 as does my ninety (90) year old father and he has never had one problem with taking it. Not one side effect and if anyone were going to manifest any problems it would probably be a person of that age. |
